Life Support Notification

Be Placed on Our Registry

Copies of these forms are also available at the Hood River Electric & Internet Co-op office. Get directions to office.

If someone in your household depends on electrically powered medical life support devices, please let us know so that you can be placed on our registry as needing an alternate source of power in the event of a power outage.

Planned Outage Notification

HR Co-op knows how important reliable electric service is to our customers and we make every effort to prevent outages. However, we cannot guarantee an uninterrupted supply of electricity. If your name is on our registry, we will, however, make every effort to notify you of any planned outages due to maintenance, repair, or construction, so that you can make alternate arrangements to have sufficient backup power to support your critical equipment.

Have a Backup Plan

Since we are unable to provide advance notice of unscheduled power interruptions due to events such as storms, accidents, vandalism, or equipment failure, we encourage you to have a backup plan that includes these steps:

  • Obtain a cellular telephone that operates without electricity and keep the battery charged.
  • Store flashlights where you can find them quickly and remember to test them periodically.
  • Learn to recognize and replace blown fuses or breakers and make sure that the breaker or fuse serving life support equipment is properly marked.
  • Place emergency numbers, such as local police department, fire company, family doctor, relatives, and friends, close to the telephone. Include your own home address and telephone number on the list.
  • Add HR Co-op to your emergency number list. You can report an outage or other electrical emergency 24-hours-a-day by calling (541) 354-1233.
  • Arrange to move the person and life support equipment to a location not affected by the outage.
  • Call “911” if someone in your household needs immediate medical attention or must be transported.
  • Consider purchasing a portable generator and battery backups. Visit our Generator Use page for more information on generator safety.
