Do We Have a Good Way to Reach You?
Emergencies rarely pick a convenient moment. Wildfires, windstorms, ice, downed lines, and equipment failures can all affect your power, sometimes with little warning. When something changes in your area, the phone number and email address on your account are how we reach you. If that information is out of date, our message may never make it to the right place—and that is 1 text we really do not want you to miss.
A common question during wildfire season is whether we will turn off the power. Under our Wildfire Mitigation Plan, shutting off power is a last resort. We only de-energize a line when it is the safest way to protect property, protect lives, and protect firefighters working nearby.
If we ever do need to turn off power near you, we will work to spread the word as quickly as we can and restore service as soon as it is safe to do so. Having a good phone number and email for you makes notifying you possible.
Fires are just 1 example. Good contact information helps us reach you about planned outages, restoration updates, billing questions, and other times when a quick heads-up makes your day easier.
The good news is that keeping your information current takes only a few minutes in SmartHub.
Update Your Contact Info
To make sure your information is current:
- Log in to your SmartHub account, either online or in the app.
- Go to Settings, then Contact Methods.
- Click Add Phone or Add Email to add a new contact, or use the pencil icon to edit 1 already on file.
- Type in your phone number, choose Yes under Receive Text Messages if you would like texts, check the box to accept the Terms and Conditions, and click Save.
- Your phone will show as Pending Verification. Click that link, enter the code we text to you, and click Save.
That verifies your phone number, so we know it is really you.
Want to Choose Which Alerts You Get?
While you are making updates, you can pick the notifications you receive:
- From Contact Methods, click the Manage Notifications link, also found under Settings in the menu.
- Find the alert you want, click on your phone number or email in that row, and click Save. A gray background means the alert is on. A white background means it is off.
You can add more than 1 phone number or email to an account. Outage notifications are in the Service section.
