Manager’s Message — February 2020

As a reminder, our office hours changed in January. We are open from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and closed Fridays. In a survey, members preferred these hours more than our previous hours. We hope the switch will help us serve you even better. As always, if you have an outage or service emergency, we can be reached 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling 541-354-1233.

We are kicking off 2020 with our annual audit. It’s mid-January as I write this, and staff from our audit firm, Friend & Reagan PC, is on-site to examine our accounting records and transactions for 2019. Their work will culminate in the publication of year-end financial statements and audit reports for Hood River Electric Cooperative and Communications Access Cooperative Holding Enterprise. These will be reviewed by our auditors at the annual membership meeting in March.

Following membership approval at special meetings in November, HREC and CACHE officially merged January 1. HREC is now our electric service and internet service provider. We will have one membership meeting this year to report on our efforts in providing both services to you. The board of directors will set the date this month. You will receive formal notification in the mail in the coming weeks.

Your board of directors also established a nominating committee to identify candidates who might serve on the board. The terms of three directors expire each year. Members fill the director positions by electing or reelecting fellow members from a list of candidates identified by the nominating committee. Candidates may also file a petition to run for a seat on the board, as specified in the bylaws, or be nominated from the floor at the annual meeting. Members must attend the annual meeting to cast their votes.
